BOSS 6000 Starch Raspers
Rasping is the first step of starch extraction. The purpose is to open the tuber cells and release the starch granules. The slurry obtained can be considered a mixture of pump (cell walls), fruit juice and starch. With modern high-speed raspers, rasping is a one-pass operation. The rasper, type BOSS 6000 has been designed for starch extraction. The purpose is to open the tuber cells and release the starch granules. The slurry obtained can be considered a mixture of pump (cell walls), fruit juice and starch. With this modern high-speed rasper, rasping is a one-pass operation.
The overall design of the rasper is slim and easy to operate and maintain. The rasper has a large rotor diameter, that incorporates the 216 groove profiles for the rasping blades and makes it possible to place a great number of raspering blades in the rotor. This increases the starch extraction and the time between changing the blades. The rasping blades can rapidly be replaced from the front by the easy-open cover. The bottom plate can be inspected and replaced effortlessly without
disconnecting the heavy rasper block.

Efficient washing of the potatoes before further processing increases yield and drastically lowers maintenance time and cost. Any soil or dirt not removed in the washing stage becomes a problem source during downstream processing. The Clean-Flow process is a counter-current washing system using fresh water addition through nozzles in the final step. The potatoes are flumed by water and pass a stone trap at the entry to the Clean-Flow washing station. The stone trap utilises the difference in density between stones and potatoes, where a counter-current water flow carries the potatoes over the stone trap. Here the stones are removed and collected on a conveyor. The water level in the washing drum has to be kept low to prevent the potatoes from floating. Besides conveying, the drum also ensures that the potatoes rub vigorously against each other, thus effectively removing fungi, rotten spots, skin and dirt from the surface. The floatation water may be recycled after filtering through sand.
